I don’t know if I can truly do this book justice. This series has become a favorite of mine along with this author. I don’t say that lightly, but I find myself coming back to these books over and again. I’ve just finished this particular series of hers for the 3rd time at a minimum. Each time I reread it, I fall in love with the characters all over again and find myself devouring the books every chance I get. I love the story line. I love the character makeup and development. This is a MUST read for those who love books about strong female characters with a little romance thrown in and books about the fae.
Throughout the book, we follow Feyre, a young girl who is dependent on no one but herself and finds a way to figure everything out through trial and error and perseverance. She is someone to respect and watch out for, and we see that very early on when she’s hunting alone in the woods at a very young age. Especially when those woods are in such close proximity to Prythian, the faerie lands, and known to have wolves that roam throughout. Yet brave Feyre hunts in those woods so close to the faeries who keep sneaking through the wall. For Feyre, it’s hunt or starve.
I can’t help but want the best for Feyre after such a rough life from such a young age, but when her circumstances change, I understand it can be hard to just relax and let things be after struggling so hard for so long. After time, you develop this armor that becomes harder to take off the more time that passes unless you can find someone to help you get out of it. Then it takes more time with that person for you to not feel the need to suit up all the time anymore. Maybe in Spring she can find someone to help lift the armor off her and chip away the ice from her hardened heart that has learned to depend on no one but herself. Or perhaps the “most beautiful male” she’s ever seen who saves her from unsavory characters yet gets painted as the bad guy? I think I’m going to like him very much! Bad guy, remember?
I love the relationships she makes along the way and how her personality evolves with those new bonds. I’m looking forward to the development of those relationships and interested to see what new connections she makes along the way.
Of course I already know what comes next, right? After all, this is my 3rd time reading this series. Has it stopped me from reading it the 2nd and 3rd times? Not at all. Why? Because this series is written where you empathize with the characters, cheer for them, laugh with them, and even chastise them on occasion. This series sucks you in and makes you want to continue reading to live in their world just a little bit longer.
